Raymond E. MurphyEdit

Would it be ok to add some information on his education and personal life? I happen to be his step grand-daughter. 173.73.44.247 (talk) 15:02, 20 August 2022 (UTC)

Yes you can, provided you understand Wikipedia's verifiability policy: Wikipedia only aims to summarise what has already been published about a person's life, with footnotes to show where the information has come from. That way, readers can check the information for themselves. So, for example, information that's been handed down within the family, or that comes from unpublished diaries, would not be welcome in a Wikipedia article. If in doubt, I suggest you post on the talk page, Talk:Raymond E. Murphy, where your proposed additions will be seen and checked by those editors most interested in improving the article.
You saw my name at the foot of the article only because I was the last editor to make a change there - but all I did was to fix a spelling mistake. -- John of Reading (talk) 16:37, 20 August 2022 (UTC)

Request refresh?Edit

Could you generate the list for User:Naraht/Greek letter titles again with the regex on the page? No particular rush, we (at WP:FRAT) are looking to take the entries that are lowercase redirect (like Alpha phi omega) and proposing a mass delete.Naraht (talk) 19:35, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

@Naraht:   Done -- John of Reading (talk) 08:25, 8 September 2022 (UTC)

AWB questionEdit

I know that it removes spaces before refs (e.g. "text. <ref>" and "</ref> <ref>"). I noticed today it misses back to back refs where the following ref starts on a new line. Would you know if there is a Phab on this. MB 02:45, 8 September 2022 (UTC)

@MB: I don't think there is. I searched for "ref" in this task summary at phabricator. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:15, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
Ok, I opened phab:T317357. Thanks. MB 17:49, 8 September 2022 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Ghulam Ahmad Khan Gulam Chand khanEdit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ghulam Ahmad Khan Gulam Chand khan, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. PICKLEDICAE🥒 12:37, 13 September 2022 (UTC)

A cup of tea for youEdit

A cup of tea for you. Thank you for fix the multiple typos of Womens → Women's that I created when noting the women on the Virginia Women's Monument Wall of Honor. I have no idea how many articles I cut and pasted that mistake into and really appreciate you fixing this avoidable error. Best, WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 21:15, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
@WomenArtistUpdates: Some women's organisations spell their name with an apostrophe, some don't. At the Virginia Women's Monument home page, the menu bar and text include the apostrophe consistently, but they've left it out of the HTML title element that sets the name of the browser tab. I decided to follow the text and made the corrections. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:33, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
Well, thank you. It is appreciated! Woman's and Women's get confused/conflated all the time too. WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:05, 18 September 2022 (UTC)

Multiple issues wrapper templateEdit

I noticed in National Museum Zaječar, AWB added MI around a "citations needed" template and "expand" template. In the next edit, a bot removed it. I contacted the bot operator who doesn't really care but was told by one user not that expand is not a maintenance/cleanup template so shouldn't be within MI (see User_talk:Kanashimi/Archive_1) section Expand_by_language_templates_in_{{Multiple_issues}}, because it's not a listed in Wikipedia:Template index/Cleanup. But I see it there in section 6. Another user disagreed and started at discussion at at the MI template over a year ago and no one commented. The issue apparently died. We now have two tools disagreeing. I don't suppose you would care to take the lead in resolving this. MB 02:14, 25 September 2022 (UTC)

@MB: Unaccustomed as I am to starting an RFC, do you think I should start an RFC? -- John of Reading (talk) 10:40, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
No, first I would expand the discussion at the template TP. The link there to the discussion at the bot operators TP doesn't work anymore - there is a template in the header which is why I didn't give you a direct link here- maybe you can figure out how to make that work). We should better explain the issue - AWB and Cewbot are in conflict and we need to prevent tool-caused edit wars. List reasons why expand should or should not be included in MI, and recommend which tool should change (and maybe note that AWB has little support presently). Ping the people who commented before (one has not be active in over six months). To get more involvement, we can try a notice at Wikipedia talk:Cleanup and if that doesn't generate enough comments to establish a clear consensus, a notice somewhere more watched, probably Pump/policy?   Done for now, I hope. That's outside my usual comfort zone! Back to fixing typos... -- John of Reading (talk) 11:12, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
